About Us

The Beginning

The seeds of The Bee Company were sown in 2015 when the late TV reporter Bill Turnbull announced his retirement from the BBC.  Bill explained that he was a beekeeper and was looking forward to having more time to spend with his bees. He went on to explain the issues that bees face and presented a 2016 BBC Horizon documentary entitled 'What's Killing Our Bees'.

Bill's passion resonated deeply with me and compelled me to study and learn more about these little creatures.  After endless hours of research over the next couple of years, I finally purchased my first beehive and started on a journey that has given me endless hours of pleasure and a rejuvenated appreciation for the natural world.  Thanks to Bill, not only have the bee numbers increased in my area, but I've also been able to understand and share his passion for bees.  I encourage anyone to find and ask a local beekeeper if you can join them on an apiary visit, at least once.

Now

We have 12 colonies of bees at present, at two apiaries, which during the summer time amounts to over half a million worker bees foraging and pollinating the local areas.  One apiary is situated on a small organic farm in Kelsall, and the other is in the corner of a garden in Heswall.

In addition to beekeeping, and adding to our family's engagement, my dad is embracing his new woodworking hobby, and my partner has her wood-turning lathe on the go.  Together we produce various handmade beehive parts, crafted with the same love and attention that we give to our bees.

The Future

Looking forward, we are committed to growing alongside our bees. Our vision includes expanding our apiaries, further enriching the local ecosystem, and continuing to support biodiversity. Our ultimate goal is to transition to full-time beekeeping, focusing entirely on advancing the craft and ensuring the health and prosperity of our bee populations. As a family, we are dedicated to a future where both our bees and our community can thrive, continuing to honor the original inspiration that brought us here.
